During the Autumn term children have access to our continuous provision area to aid the transition from Reception to Year 1.
In year 1 our English work centres round a focus book which is carefully chosen to link with our current topic and engage all children.
We explore the themes, structure and features of the book using drama, re-telling and story-mapping before moving on to supported and independent writing.
We have daily Read, Write Inc sessions to support our reading and writing as well as shared class reading and one to one reading with the teacher.
We use a variety of practical activities and resources to explore maths concepts and build our maths and number skills.
Each half term we introduce the children to our new topic with a memorable experience. So far we have had a special delivery of dinosaur eggs and an alien crash site. Who knows what will happen next!

"The meeting was excellent because we all got a chance to talk about how to make the school a better place to be. I am looking forward to having more conversations with Miss Jackson and the other representatives about how we can make St. Chrysostom's an exciting and outstanding place to learn!"
