Welcome to our School Website!Well Done Year 6!
All the staff would like to say well done to Year 6 for working so hard in their SATs reading and maths tests this week. We are very proud of how much effort they have put in all year and look forward to receiving the final results, which we are sure will be excellent! Our Portraits, a Possible World Record and Buckingham Palace! Before Christmas, Miss Lodge and Year Five were lucky enough to go on a trip to the Manchester Art Gallery with Taxal and Fernilee Primary School. While we made new friends, we drew self portraits that we thought represented us and our hopes for the future. The portraits were entered into a project called Face Britain, and the children's portraits were used to make a portrait of Queen Elizabeth that was projected on Buckingham Palace to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee! The project was also an attempt to break the world record for the highest number of artists to work on the same piece of art. The Guinness World Records company is currently weighing up the evidence to see if we have broken the record, but with the current record involving only 28,000 people and Face Britain involving 200,000 children, we think we will surely win! Watch out for an update when we hear more! http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2012/4/200000-children-have-their-faces-projected-on-to-front-of-buckingham-palace-41347/ Have a look at our great portraits below and see the projection that adorned the palace! We are very proud of ourselves, and our fantastic gallery is on the Face Britain website, where you can buy mugs, mouse mats and t-shirts with our portraits on! http://facebritain.photobox.com/school/12310/class/13347 You can also see a video of part of the projection at:
Mary’s Meals Competition We are proud to be raising money for the Mary’s Meals charity. Mary’s Meals provides daily meals to chronically hungry children in their local school. In this way, hungry children are encouraged to attend school and, through education, gain a better future for themselves and their community. See www.marysmeals.org.uk for more details. This year, we thought a school meal would be a creative way to learn more about food and raise money.
Our lovely cook, Mrs Ishola, has kindly said she will judge the best dish and is even going to serve up the winning entry as a school meal! You might want to create your personal favourite meal, share a traditional family dish, or even design a new mouth-watering creation. Please try to think about healthy eating when you design your meal, as all the food we serve in school has to be reasonably nutritionally balanced. The portion plate below gives an indication of the components of a balanced meal (www.familylearning.org.uk/balanced_diet.html has more information and healthy eating games).
Entries can be drawn, painted, collaged or stuck on to a paper plate and should be handed into school by Friday 18th May. Entries cost 50p each and the winner will be announced on Friday 25th May. Please write the names of each ingredient on the plate or as a separate list, so that your meal can be made if it is chosen as the winner. Good luck, we can’t wait to see your delicious meals! New Jumpers for St Chrysostom's! You voted BLUE! Thank you to everyone who voted for the new jumper colour for St Chrysostom's. we can announce that the colour with the highest number of votes was...BLUE! The new sweatshirts will be produced soon and we will let you know when they are available to buy. International Links We are delighted to be partnered with Mutundwe Blessed Primary School in Uganda for the ‘Twin 2012’ International Links Programme. Children will be sending letters to share information about our school and build relationships with children from another country. We look forward to doing a collaborative Olympics project and sharing work with the children from Mutundwe Blessed Primary School. Keep an eye out for our latest updates regarding the partnership!
